What has changed in the reading room?

The capacity of the reading room is limited to 200 people. All registered users can enter the reading room; library membership is required. There are 144 desk workplaces and 18 PC workplaces available.

Is access to the library foyer possible without registration?

Yes, access to the foyer is possible without registration. When entering the premises, you will need mouth-and-nose covers and must adhere to the distance rule of 1.50 m. In the foyer you can return books via the return machine and you can also go to the service counter (fees, library card, interlibrary loans, etc.). The pay terminal, a copier/printer and the restrooms are also accessible. The upper foyer as well as the group study rooms are closed. Access to the reading room is only possible with registration (please check your user ID (Leuphana or Library Card) beforehand and renew it at the service counter if necessary).

Can I sit and work in the reading room?

When you register for the reading room, you can receive one of 144 numbered place tickets, if available. You may sit and work at this personal workplace.  While sitting at your numbered place, you may remove your mouth-and-nose covers. They must be worn in all other areas inside the reading room.

Why do I have to register to go to the reading room? (privacy policy)

For one thing, we count the users in order to limit the number of people in the reading room to 200. Aditionally, we record your user number and thus indirectly your name and contact details (surname, first name, address and telephone number) to fulfil our legal obligation to document the users of our library with their contact details. The data that we store in a secure database are the user number and the corresponding registration date. The storage process is carried out automatically when you check in or out with your library card. The data recorded by us is automatically deleted after 3 weeks. This procedure of electronic registration has been coordinated with the data protection officer of the Leuphana University.

For further details, data protection information and your rights in this context, please read the „Datenschutzhinweise für die Anwesenheitserfassung nach der SARS-CoV-2- Hygienerichtlinie (CoronaVO)“.

Can I work together with a group in the library?

Unfortunately this is not possible. Our group work rooms and the places in the upper foyer are still closed.

Can I reserve a book trolley/locker again?

No, this service is currently not available.

How long can I work in the reading room?

There is no time limit, but we appeal to your sense of solidarity to stay with us only as long as necessary. In this way you can help other users who would also like to work in our reading room.

Are there online alternatives for training and support?

  • "Stippvisiten": Faculty members can receive specific support for their courses from us. Depending on needs and dates, librarians can participate in a session via zoom or by providing slides with recorded texts. We are also available to the participants afterwards for questions via e-mail or can set up special etherpads. If you are interested, please send an e-mail to ik-team@leuphana.de.
  • Individual consultation: We answer inquiries via e-mail (ik-team@leuphana.de) regarding literature research, literature supply and reference management software. For complex inquiries we can arrange appointments for individual consultation via Zoom.
  • Citavi, Mendeley, Zotero: There are currently no workshops. Online courses for Mendeley and Citavi in German are in preparation and will be released in the course of this month via myStudy (myStudy Veranstaltungsverzeichnis > zusätzliche Angebote (ohne CPs) > Universitätsbibliothek > Literaturverwaltung) (myStudy Event Directory > additional offers (without CPs) > University Library > Literature Administration). There is also self-study material that can already be used. This material is constantly updated and supplemented. It can be found in the download area at the bottom of the page for reference management systems.
