Can I borrow books at this time?

The electronic stock of the MIZ licensed by the library is accessible via VPN for members of the university, for the LogIn please use the data of the Leuphana account. In case of problems, please contact it-tutor@leuphana.de.
If you are a lecturer and do not have a Leuphana account yet, please contact your institute.

All registered users can order required printed literature via the mail address lieferdienste@leuphana.de. Please indicate the title and signature of the desired media when ordering. The media will be delivered after five working days.

All ordered media can be picked up Monday-Friday from 10am-8pm at the service desk in the library foyer. Orders will be available for pickup for one week. Wearing a mouth-to-nose protection is mandatory.

In addition to providing printed books, we produce scans of printed journal articles. Please also send the order requests to lieferdienste@leuphana.de. The scanned articles will be delivered to you by email via myShare (members of the university), please send your request from the Leuphana mail address. For external users we provide the scans in print for pickup.

Students can still submit acquisition suggestions for urgently needed literature via the website; mainly e-books are procured.

How can I return my books?

Borrowed media can be returned via the book boxes Monday to Friday from 10 am to 8 pm in the lecture hall corridor. These boxes will be emptied regularly and the media will be returned by us. The lecture hall corridor is not open on weekends. It is anticipated that beginning January 23, 2021, the lecture hall aisle will be open Saturdays 12pm-4pm for media drop-off.

How can I access e-books, databases, and journal articles online from home?

University members can still access electronic resources (e-books, databases and e-journals) remotely. To do so, you will need the VPN client, as well as your Leuphana account and the corresponding password. When logging in to the VPN client, select access via "Online research" to access the e-resources, the default setting is "Intranet".

Who can help me with technical problems with the VPN or Office keys?

IT tutors will continue to work from their home offices and can be reached by mail at it-tutor@leuphana.de. Office keys can be requested. Furthermore, the IT tutors will help with technical questions, such as VPN.

Is access to the library foyer possible without registration?

Yes, access to the foyer is possible without registration. When entering the premises, you will need mouth-and-nose covers and must adhere to the distance rule of 1.50 m. In the foyer you can return books via the return machine and you can also go to the service counter (fees, library card, interlibrary loans, etc.). The pay terminal, a copier/printer and the restrooms are also accessible. The upper foyer as well as the group study rooms are closed.

Are there online alternatives for training and support?

  • "Stippvisiten": Faculty members can receive specific support for their courses from us. Depending on needs and dates, librarians can participate in a session via zoom or by providing slides with recorded texts. We are also available to the participants afterwards for questions via e-mail or can set up special etherpads. If you are interested, please send an e-mail to ik-team@leuphana.de.
  • We offer an introductory course for new students in English. You can find it on Moodle.
  • Individual consultation: We answer inquiries via e-mail (recherche@leuphana.de) regarding literature research and access to our ressources. Regarding reference management software you can write to literaturverwaltung@leuphana.de. For complex inquiries we can arrange appointments for individual consultation via Zoom.
  • Citavi, Mendeley, Zotero: There are currently no workshops. Online courses for Mendeley and Citavi in German are in preparation and will be released in the course of this month via myStudy (myStudy Veranstaltungsverzeichnis > zusätzliche Angebote (ohne CPs) > Universitätsbibliothek > Literaturverwaltung) (myStudy Event Directory > additional offers (without CPs) > University Library > Literature Administration). There is also self-study material that can already be used. This material is constantly updated and supplemented. It can be found in the download area at the bottom of the page for reference management systems.

I just want to print / scan something, can I access the reading room?

Yes, you register with your library card in the foyer with the security service. Then please find a free space for printing / scanning. When you have finished, leave the reading room again.

In addition, a printer is available in the foyer so that you can print without prior registration.

Are IT tutors on site to help me?

Yes, the IT tutors are currently working in the library foyer. They can also be reached via the e-mail address it-tutor@leuphana.de.

I cannot return my books in time, what happens because of the overdue fees?

The overdue notice process has been back on a normal schedule since the middle of May. If you are unable to return your books in time, please contact us by phone or e-mail (ausleihe@leuphana.de).

I do not have a library card, what can I do?

In order to get a user card, please fill out the online registration at home. This is presently not possible in the library. Afterwards you can collect the card at the issuing point in the library foyer during the opening hours. If personal pickup is not possible, please contact ubinfo@leuphana.de.

I would like to submit the deposit copies of my dissertation, what can I do?

My library card/membership is about to expire. What can I do?

Library cards/memberships were automatically extended until 31.03.2021. If you have any problems with your library membership, please send an e-mail to ubinfo@leuphana.de. The mails will be answered as soon as possible.

My VPN access is not working, what can I do?

Please check that you have registered with the correct group. To access our electronic resources, you must select "Online Recherche". If you have already clicked on the link to the full text before connecting to the VPN server, please delete the corresponding cookies in your browser before using the link again. You will find a tutorial in this short video.

If you are still having problems, please send a mail to it-tutor@leuphana.de. The mails will be  answered as soon as possible.

I would like to order something via interlibrary loan, is that possible?

Yes, interlibrary loan orders via the GVK are possible without restriction.

I have ordered books / articles via interlibrary loan, when will they arrive?

Books are usually delivered within 1 - 3 weeks. Essays are delivered faster.

Where can I pick up interlibrary loans?

You can pick up your interlibrary loans during our opening hours at the service counter in the foyer.

I have already renewed my borrowed books four times, what can I do now?

The maximum number of renewals has been increased, you can now renew your books online for up to eight times.

Can I return media by mail?
