Leuphana Lehre Plus+
Blended learning certificate for teaching competence
Leuphana Teaching Plus+ is a one-year continuing education program in blended learning format for Leuphana teachers who would like to receive basic training in higher education didactics. In a fixed group of max. 15 people, participants are empowered for media-supported teaching and develop their own teaching project.
The program took place for the first time starting in the winter semester 2022/23 and comprises 120 work units.
A new round is planned for winter semester 2024/25 - the programme will become a advanced level within a new certificate programme and will be adapted accordingly (more information to follow).
In synchronous and asynchronous formats, they learn theoretical and practical basics for planning and conducting their own courses, for supervising students, for competence-oriented testing, and for feedback and evaluation. The participants connect this knowledge with the concrete situation at Leuphana and receive collegial feedback. Reflection formats support the transfer into teaching practice and promote the exchange about current didactical challenges within the subject communities.
Leuphana Teaching Plus+ begins with the kick-off on December 7, 2022 and ends on Teaching Day in November 2023.
Between these two dates, there is an extensive and varied program with a focus on teaching theoretical principles, collegial exchange, application in teaching at Leuphana, individual profile development, professional and interdisciplinary exchange with the communities of the faculties, continuous reflection, and transfer to one's own teaching practice.
The workload for the entire program is calculated at 120 work units (AE), with 1 AE corresponding to approximately 45 minutes. Of these, 56 AE are allocated to the basic area, 10 AE to the dialogue area, 16 AE to the profile area, 16 AE to the transfer area, and another 22 AE for the work on the teaching project.

The area Basis is divided into four main modules, which deal with the most important fields of activity of teaching at universities: Planning and conducting courses, advising and supervising students, competency-based assessment, and feedback and evaluation in teaching.
All four modules contain parts of self-study, in-depth theoretical study of the subject area, a strong reference to Leuphana as well as collegial exchange and feedback.
The self-study either precedes or follows the theoretical study; you will receive detailed information on this at the kickoff. It is important that you make time to attend the synchronous dates listed below. These take place either on Wednesday afternoons (1-15pm) or Fridays, usually in the morning.

In the area of dialogue, the participants get into conversation with their colleagues and experienced teachers at their faculties. In a group or individually, they organize a 1-2 hour public event at the faculty or institute, which addresses current teaching challenges in a dialogical format. In addition, they are expected to participate in at least two other events in this area.
In the profile area, you set your own priorities and select from a range of synchronous and asynchronous events those that most closely match your continuing education concerns, are of interest to you from the perspective of your career development, and/or advance you well in working on your teaching project. In total, you can earn credit for events totaling 16 AE.
You will find all current offers on the event website. There you can also register directly.
In the area of transfer, participants will be encouraged to reflect on the previous content and its application in teaching practice. In addition, they will work on their own teaching project in the group - supported by an introduction to teaching innovations.

The core of the one-year program is the participants' teaching projects.
At the beginning of the program, the participants submit an idea for such a teaching project with their application. In the course of the certificate program, they develop this idea further and are accompanied by external lecturers, Leuphana colleagues and other participants of the program.
The project is a concrete project that can be realized by the participants (possibly with partners) and contributes to the improvement of teaching at Leuphana. The expected result has a significant relevance for teaching, for the students, for the teaching unit and/or for Leuphana as a whole. The teaching project can, but does not have to be related to the further development of a course. Likewise, a module, a specific study section, a situation in a teaching unit, or even a study element in a study program can be targeted.
It is not necessary to implement the project within the duration of the program, but the aim should be to do so in a timely manner.
If you have any questions about the program, participation or feedback, please do not hesitate to contact the colleagues of the teaching service.
