Information for professors, lecturers and students: Alternative organization of courses and examinations during the Corona pandemic in the winter semester 2020/2021

2021-02-02

In addition to our information letters to professors and lecturers dated January 21, 2021, and to students dated January 26, 2021, we would like to inform you in advance that at their meetings on January 27, 2021, the Senate and the Presidential Board resolved or approved changes to the annexes to the framework examination regulations of the study programs at Leuphana College, Leuphana Graduate School, and Leuphana Professional School for the alternative implementation of courses and examinations during the Corona crisis in the winter semester 2020/2021.

On the basis of these resolutions, the Presidential Board decided on January 29, 2021, in consultation with the Deans of Studies and the Occupational Health and Safety Officer, as well as with the advice of the student members of the respective central study commissions, that in view of the current pandemic situation further interests of infection and health protection are fundamentally opposed to the performance of examinations in the winter semester 2020/2021 in attendance.

The detailed regulations for the conduct of examinations in the winter semester 2020/2021 will be published at the beginning of the coming week in the official announcement of the changes to the annexes to the framework examination regulations. We would like to take this opportunity to inform you in advance about the most important points:

1) Instead of face-to-face examinations, examinations will generally be conducted in one of the following three variants:
a) Examination with direct online processing time according to the time specification in the subject-specific appendices via examination software PLUS specification of the software used (EvaExam or Moodle online examination),
b) Examination with extended processing time (6-24 hours) with provision of the examination tasks in a Word/pdf file via myStudy or Moodle,
c) written examination with immediate processing time according to the time specification in the subject-specific appendices with provision of the examination tasks in a Word/pdf file via myStudy or Moodle.

2) Oral examinations, including those for final theses, as well as practical performances will generally be carried out by means of video conferencing instead of presence.

3) Written scientific papers can be submitted in digital form via e-mail.

4) For examinations in the winter semester 2020/2021, it will apply in accordance with the resolution that two examinations from different modules taken in the same semester which have been assessed as "insufficient" or "failed" will not be counted towards the number of available examination attempts. This does not apply to final papers and examinations that are deemed to have been failed due to withdrawal or failure or a detected attempt at cheating. 5.

5) A period of 3 working days will apply for withdrawal from an examination without giving reasons, in deviation from the normally applicable regulations.

Examiners may make exceptions to the alternative conduct of an examination in consultation with the Dean of Studies and the persons responsible for the module, with the advice of the student members of the relevant Faculty Council (College, Graduate School) (for courses in the College and Graduate School) or in consultation with the respective head of the study program and the head of the Professional School with the advice of the student members of the responsible Central Study Commission (for courses in the Professional School) and in compliance with the hygiene guidelines of the university, if 1) an alternative performance of the examination is impossible (e.g. laboratory, sports or musical-practical examination performance), or 2) in the case of written examinations, this is absolutely necessary to ensure the achievement of the learning and competence objective as well as a proper examination procedure.

Please be sure to find out about the detailed regulations in the official announcement of the changes to the annexes to the framework examination regulations at the beginning of next week in the Leuphana Gazette. We will then inform you again separately.
