Three Moodle course templates are now available which you can use to create three pre-structured Moodle courses in your myStudy course under the tab "Online Teaching". You will find more information about this below.

Setting up Moodle via Your myStudy Course


IMPORTANT NOTE:

Before you create a Moodle course via myStudy according to the following instructions, please log in to Moodle once with your myStudy access data. The Moodle registration can be found here.

There are three pre-structured course templates available for setting up Moodle courses which you can create via a button on myStudy. Said button can be found under the tab "Online Teaching". The following course templates are available:

  1. Blank course: This course template is a barely pre-structured Moodle course for lecturers with previous Moodle experience.
  2. Focus on videos and tasks: This course template provides basic functions such as a pre-structured seminar plan including the possibility of uploading and downloading materials and a discussion forum, as well as options for integrating videos and various task types as well as tests and quizzes.
  3. Interaction and collaboration: Aside from basic functions such as a pre-structured seminar plan including the possibility to upload and download materials and a discussion forum, this course template allows for various activities such as peer feedback, wikis, voting for collaboration and interaction.

For all course templates, you can extend and adapt your Moodle course as you wish. Once you have generated your Moodle course, you will receive the default student enrolment key which you can of course change and then communicate to the students.

Once you have decided on a course format, click on the relevant button and the course will be created directly on Moodle. Those specified as lecturers and/ or tutors on myStudy are automatically signed in on the course and are given the role of "lecturer" with full editing rights.

On myStudy, a button "Go to Moodle course" will be displayed which allows you to switch directly to the Moodle course. If you are already logged in to Moodle, you will be redirected to the course. If you are not logged in, log in with your myStudy user data.

The Moodle course is created with a standardised registration key for students. We recommend that you change the registration key and inform your students about this key via myStudy. (You will find instructions on how to do this in your Moodle course).

Successfully registered students will see a button "To Moodle course" under the tab "Online Teaching" on myStudy. Students are redirected to the Moodle course and must register there once, using the registration key.

Should you decide to offer your course using another digital format once you explored Moodle, you can delete the created Moodle course at the same place.

Recommendation: Also use the open discussion forums for collegial exchange on Moodle and other digital tools and platforms for teaching. In these discussion forums you can exchange ideas on a collegial level on topics, questions, experiences, etc. concerning the digital summer semester. If you click on the following link, you must first register with Moodle. Please use your myStudy username and password. You can access the forums here.

What Does Moodle Offer?


In addition to the information and communication platform myStudy, Moodle is a learning platform that can be used to design digital course rooms and corresponding teaching/learning scenarios. These can be designed as fully virtual courses or contain supplementary modules for face-to-face courses (blended learning). Either way, Moodle provides various functions for structured and guided course preparation.Typical learning activities and functions on Moodle include:

  • Integration of Zoom into your Moodle course
  • asynchronous communication between lecturers and students (wikis, discussion forums and chats)
  • collaboration through special features (voting, survey and mutual feedback)
  • Setting of tasks or entire lessons for independent preparation and follow-up by students
  • Creation and integration of videos, screen- and podcasts
  • Assessment of the individual learning process through self-study tests with functions such as learning progress control and automated evaluation
  • Peer assessments
  • Upload and download of materials
  • Implementation of tests and online exams. For the latter, however, a clarification of the examination law is still required; information on this will follow shortly.
