SUMMARY:Steady as You Go! Building Resilience in Communication
DESCRIPTION:Addressees:This workshop is for FLINTA only, i.e. women, lesbia
 ns, intersex, non-binary, transgender and agender persons who are doctoral 
 researchers or postdocs who seek skills and tools to improve communication 
 in academia and to develop awareness techniques for emotional resilience in
  various contexts.\n\nGoals:Are you stuck in “muddy thinking” patterns? Min
 dful communication principles can be used as practical and helpful tools in
  navigating communication during your research process. Mindful communicati
 on principles include setting an intention, being fully present, remaining 
 open and non-judgmental, and relating to others with compassion. We will fo
 cus specifically on bringing a greater level of awareness to the two major 
 components of communication: listening and speaking. \n\nContent Outline:• 
 using mindfulness techniques to help achieve specific goals• managing chall
 enging situations with emotional resilience techniques• developing self-awa
 reness and self-confidence though role-play and feedback• clarifying miscon
 ceptions and “faulty-thinking” patterns• understanding and practicing body-
 mind connections• using language "tools" for framing and focusing \n\nMetho
 ds:Throughout the workshop, participants will be guided through interactive
  exercises to improve the ability to listen and react generously, and to in
 tegrate focusing techniques, which empower them to speak with purpose and i
 ntention. We will also offer feedback to help improve non-verbal communicat
 ion and strengthen emotional resilience. \n\nTrainer:Julie Stearns is a pro
 fessional director and actress with over 20 years of experience in theater 
 skills and productions. She is a lecturer at the University of Duisburg-Ess
 en and Folkwang University of the Arts, and has been working for the impuls
 plus team since 2011. She has many years of experience in teaching presenta
 tion skills, as well as voice and body training, self-marketing skills and 
 performance skills.\n\nThis workshop is offered by TU Hamburg and will take
