Inhalt: The course introduces the students to the general concepts used in finance and in particular decision making in companies. Investment and financing decisions of companies in their risky business environment are discussed. Important to judge on these decisions is further understanding of financing instruments, and capital markets in general. An emphasis is put on the introduction to portfolio theory. We start with utility theory, where we also discuss dominance relations. In the part on portfolio selection, the main focus is on the mean-variance approach which is the basis for the classical capital asset pricing model. In the part on corporate finance, we discuss the valuation of companies, and the capital structure. The Tutorial will deepen the understanding of the concepts and is augmented with an online tutorial.
