Inhalt: The purpose of comparative law is to further insights into the law via the means of comparison. The comparison can refer to entire legal systems or to individual regulatory contents. The lecture explains the comparative law method and discusses its added value as well as its challenges. Based on selected examples – such as the operation of fundamental rights in legal relationships between private parties, the regulation of survivor's benefits or the rules governing informal relationships – it will be shown how comparative law works.
