The Art of Storytelling in Academia, the Workplace, and Beyond ab B2 (Seminar)

Inhalt: As a Native American proverb says, "Tell me the facts and I’ll learn. Tell me the truth and I’ll believe. But tell me a story and it will live in my heart forever.” In this seminar, we'll explore the power of storytelling and learn how to use narrative techniques to make your presentations more engaging, your academic work more compelling, and your personal and professional interactions more impactful. We'll begin by looking at descriptive writing, the power of creative language use, and general storytelling techniques. You will have many opportunities to apply and adapt those practices in both spoken and written English while enhancing your ability to connect with others and convey your ideas clearly and memorably. No prior knowledge is necessary. Everyone has their own stories to tell. What are yours?

Cat Got Your Tongue? – Developing Your Oral Communication Skills in English. Englisch ab B2 (Seminar)

Inhalt: Are you uncomfortable speaking in English in front of a group? Do you want to say something in your classes, but can’t get the words out fast enough? Do you want to be prepared to meet workplace demands, where employees are valued for their ability to communicate? If so, then this is the course for you. In this student-centered class, we will work on vocabulary-building strategies while improving oral fluency and proficiency skills in English. Moreover, students will practice their public speaking skills in various contexts (small talk, presentations, interviewing, etc).

Contemporary Conversations. Englisch ab B2 (Seminar)

Inhalt: Would you like to start and continue a conversation on a personal or professional level with more ease? Do you need to practice your speaking? Do you need a bit of help (grammar, fluency, confidence) to speak at the B2 level? If you answered any of the questions above with 'yes', this class is for you. The goal is to improve speaking ability by offering a bit help where needed. Various tips and methods such as the 3 P model or CRM model will be provided and implemented during class.

Conversation Pieces: Cultivating Your Communicative Competence. Englisch ab B2 (Seminar)

Inhalt: A conversation piece is something unusual that stimulates discussion. In this course, I will select an object, a piece of flash-fiction/short-short story, images/works of art, or an incident/news event, etc. to encourage you to actively participate in various speaking activities. These include – but are not limited to – guided discussions, mini-debates, impromptu mini-presentations, drama games, and roleplays. Although you will primarily practice enhancing your speaking skills and increasing your active vocabulary, you will also have the opportunity to improve your reading, listening, and writing skills based on the selected weekly activity.

Dramarama: Communication and Creativity in Action. Englisch ab B2 (Seminar)

Inhalt: Interested in experimenting with creativity techniques, temporarily leaving your comfort zone, and simultaneously enhancing your communication skills? If that’s the case, then Dramarama is your workshop. In our 90-minute weekly sessions, you will have the opportunity to actively participate in process drama, improvisation and drama games as well as analyze and act out scenes from a variety of comic/dramatic pieces written for stage and screen. Additionally, you will benefit from exercises and activities focusing on language-related as well as personal competencies: * perfecting verbal communication skills (e.g. fluency, pronunciation, and enunciation) * refining non-verbal communication skills (e.g. paralanguage) * honing your sprachgefühl for the English language (e.g. register, connotations, denotations) * expanding your vocabulary and vocabulary learning techniques * broadening critical reading skills and cultural literacy * increasing your self-awareness, self-confidence, self-investment, and interpersonal savvy * overcoming stage fright Are you ready for some Dramarama?
