Case Study Products Liability: SuperCar (Vorlesung)

Dozent/in: Bernhard Hohlbein

Termin:
wöchentlich | Mittwoch | 10:15 - 11:45 | 13.10.2025 - 30.01.2026 | C 4.111 Seminarraum

Inhalt: This module is built around a fictional case study set in the automobile industry. The focus will be on key aspects of liability law, business strategy, and corporate communication. You assume the role of a Junior Consultant to Robert Law, Head of Legal at SuperCar—a leading German manufacturer of sustainable, high-performance vehicles. You will be immersed in the realities of legal and business practice from the very first day. Unlike traditional classes, this seminar positions you as an emerging professional, not a passive student. Your input will carry weight, your analyses and your decisions will be considered in real business contexts. Robert Law sets the tone clearly: “I will not give you textbooks to read. Instead, I will ask you real-life questions, and you will give me your answers.” This pragmatic, challenge-driven approach appealed to you as it ensures that you learn by doing - developing judgment, confidence, and problem-solving skills that extend beyond theory. By working with Robert Law, you will gain direct exposure to strategic decision-making, develop a sharp understanding of how law operates within a cutting-edge industry, and be treated as a young professional whose contributions matter.

Dozent/in: Gina Petrovici, Lew Ruben Töpfer

Termin:
wöchentlich | Dienstag | 18:15 - 19:45 | 13.10.2025 - 30.01.2026 | C 7.307 Seminarraum

Inhalt: *** This course can also prepare successfully registered students for the ECSL/SGAC Model United Nations: https://www.esa.int/About_Us/ECSL_-_European_Centre_for_Space_Law/SGAC_x_ECSL_Model_UN_COPUOS*** This course offers theoretical and practical soft skills training in order to prepare students for the day-to-day business in the legal field, such as :  legal research;  legal analysis;  legal writing;  strategic thinking;  negotiation;  team-working capacity;  knowledge of various (also new) areas of law;  language skills (here i.e. English language)  and more... A moot court is a mock trial or a simulated litigation, which in Moot Court II can centre around different cases stemming from five of the most important international moot court competitions in 2019/2020, i.e.:  Willem C. Vis Moot Court in international commercial arbitration;  Philip C. Jessup Moot Court in international public law;  ELSA moot court competition in WTO law;  Leiden-Sarin International Air Law Moot Court;  Manfred Lachs Moot Court in Space Law. Students will work in teams, composed of Applicant/Claimant and Respondent/Defendant to develop well-structured, legally sound, clear and convincing argumentation for their written memoranda and pleadings. The course combines theoretical and practical knowledge and soft skills and is therefore divided into lectures and practical sessions involving both, to allow students to work with a larger audience and work in groups. The first 3 sessions will be held in the form of introductory lectures, covering theoretical questions of mooting, including recapitulation of main steps of case solving, main issues of preparation of written memoranda and oral presentation as well as a first overview of the five above-mentioned Moot Court Competitions. Moot Court II may conclude with an Internal Moot Court Competition, where students can present the acquired skills in a litigation simulation on one of the above cases, to be agreed upon in the course. Such Internal Moot Court Competition would be held in front of a judging panel consisting of other Professors/experts in the field. Details in this regard to be agreed and confirmed in the course of Moot Court II.
