Inhalt: What can entrepreneurs learn from artists? How do aesthetics, improvisation, and reflection transform the way we design entrepreneurial ideas? This course explores what entrepreneurs can learn from the mindsets, methods, and creative processes of artists. Across eight themes – Visuality & Aesthetics, Materiality & Prototyping, Improvisation, Inspiration, Disruption, Systems Thinking, Iteration, and Reflection – students will discover how artistic intelligence can enrich entrepreneurial practice. The pedagogy is rooted in experiential learning: students will not only read and discuss academic concepts but also experience, reflect, and apply them through interactive exercises, group discussions, and artistic interventions. A strong emphasis is placed on the transfer into entrepreneurial practice. The course also includes visits to local cultural institutions (tba), offering direct encounters with artistic practice. Students actively contribute to the course by presenting one academic paper in teams and leading a discussion. These presentations provide the theoretical framing for the eight themes and serve as a basis for reflecting on experiences and practice transfer. The course structure combines three elements: – a virtual kick-off session for introduction and topic allocation – an intensive block seminar with paper presentations, exercises, reflections, and cultural visits – a virtual follow-up sessions for integration, reflection, and final presentations

M&E in Digital Age: Digital-Sustainable Business Models and Platform Economics (Seminar)

Dozent/in: Stefanie Habersang

Termin:
14-täglich | Montag | 08:15 - 11:45 | 20.10.2025 - 28.01.2026 | C 14.103 Seminarraum
Einzeltermin | Mo, 24.11.2025, 08:15 - Mo, 24.11.2025, 11:45 | C 40.530 Seminarraum | Ersatzvorlesung

Inhalt: This seminar is a theory-based, yet interactive course designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to develop a sustainable platform-based business model. Drawing from the key insights from the books "The Platform Business Navigator" and "Sustainable Business Model Design" this course offers a hands-on approach to understanding and creating value in the digital economy. Over the span of six double sessions, students will explore opportunities for sustainable value creation, platform design, monetization, scaling, and managing digital platforms. In this class, students will also actively engage with AI models such as ChatGPT to support the ideation and creativity process in building a platform business model. Together, we will critically assess and discuss the use of AI for building a sustainable platform business model. In line with our engagement in the PRME initative, this course draws on the I5 Playbook (https://www.i5playbook.org). Business leaders are undeniably one of the most important agents to create sustainable positive development for the world. In the wake of a global pandemic, rising inequalities and environmental disasters, it has become increasingly clear that leaders with a holistic skillset are in scarce supply. These humanitarian catastrophes have surfaced ‘wicked problems’ where no predefined methods exist to solve these transnational challenges and where the call for novel innovative solutions, and ‘minds-on/hands-on’ multi-disciplinary approaches are critically in demand. Today, there is an urgent need for world leaders who can leverage interconnected, dynamic and holistic skills to tackle the global challenges society faces. Therefore, this course implements the I5 principles: 1. Make learning Meaningful 2. Facilitate Active Engagement 3. Design for Iteration 4. Develop supportive Social Interaction 5. Foster Joy and Well-being

Einzeltermin | Mo, 12.01.2026, 10:15 - Mo, 12.01.2026, 13:45 | C 40.108 Seminarraum

Inhalt: This seminar explores how new ventures address societal challenges through economically viable business models. While entrepreneurship is often perceived primarily as a path to financial success, it also holds transformative potential for tackling social and environmental problems. Students will examine how new ventures emerge, navigate early-stage challenges, and balance the tensions between purpose and profit. Case examples include Clue in women’s health, Too Good To Go in sustainable consumption, and Recup in ecological transformation – though students are free to choose other ventures that pursue social or environmental goals. The seminar combines a strong theoretical foundation with hands-on analytical work. Students will independently study and discuss academic articles in class and develop case-based insights through written assignments. In thematic sessions, two core readings will be discussed each week, introduced by student groups of two or three. The readings cover topics such as hybrid organizations and social enterprises, emancipatory entrepreneurship, social movements, and strategic approaches. A guest lecture will complement the course by providing practical insights from the field.

Inhalt: The Global Scaling Challenge is an international student competition about real-life firms that currently face the challenge of scaling globally. Student teams will develop, present, and discuss their suggestion for a scaling strategy with the entrepreneurs and an expert jury. Find more information here: https://gsc.mgt.unm.edu/ Student teams are coached to compete in developing a scaling solution to real-world cases. In doing so, the course revisits key concepts of entrepreneurship such as business models, growth and scaling strategies and discusses their practical application. What’s in it for you? As a student of IBAE you can compete with teams from around the globe and your input can make a real difference for the participating firms. You will be given mentorship and hence can develop your knowledge and skills in addressing real-life entrepreneurial challenges. Additionally, successful student teams can win a share of the price money. Note that this course takes largely place outside of the regular semester cycle. Thus, students have to be prepared to work intensively during February and March. Usually, there is a short time between the presentation date and the publication of the case materials - this time pressure is part of the challenge. Since this is an international challenge, most sessions will be online, i.e. you do not have to be on-site during the semester break. Please check the Syllabus for the final seminar and challenge dates.
