Senate and Board of Trustees decide on second term for Christian Brei

2023-07-24 Lüneburg. At its meeting in June, the Senate of Leuphana University Lüneburg approved the re-election of Executive Vice President Christian Brei. The Leuphana Board of Trustees has now confirmed the election. The economist and administrative scientist has been part of the university's top management since 2018. His second term will begin in 2024 and last eight years.

Christian Brei has many years of experience in professional university and science management. Within the Presidential Board, his responsibilities include finance, human resources, building infrastructure, IT infrastructure and communications. As full-time vice president, he represents the president in his absence and heads the central university administration.

Even before his first term, Christian Brei had worked in various capacities at Leuphana. After studying economics at the University of Witten/Herdecke, he was initially personal assistant to President Sascha Spoun, project manager for the university's realignment, and head of strategic university development. Later, he became co-head of university administration and head of university development in the area of study and teaching. In 2014, he earned a Master of Public Administration from Harvard University.

University President Sascha Spoun welcomed the decision: "Christian Brei has done an outstanding job for Leuphana over the past years. The fact that the Senate decided to re-elect him without a search committee and re-advertisement of the position shows that he has earned great trust and broad approval in the university."
