The role of municipalities in implementing the energy transition
2023-08-30 Lüneburg. The 11th Leuphana Energy Forum will take place on 5 September. This year, the focus is on the central role of municipalities in the implementation of the energy transition. Of particular importance for this topic is municipal heat planning, which has recently been repeatedly brought into focus in connection with the much-discussed Building Energy Act. The acceleration of the electricity transition and an overarching view of energy-intensive sectors such as the energy industry, transport or the chemical industry are also among the current challenges.
At this year's Energy Forum, representatives from science, politics and practice will shed light on economic, financial and legal aspects of the heat transition in the municipalities. Among other things, they will discuss municipal heating supply with renewable energy, the financial participation of municipalities and citizens in the energy transition and the political framework conditions for the energy transition at the municipal level.
Around 200 participants from business, science, administration and civil society are expected to attend the one-day event, which will take place in Leuphana's central building. The organisers are Leuphana University Lüneburg and the Climate Protection and Energy Agency of Lower Saxony (KEAN) in cooperation with the ECOLOG Institute for Social-Ecological Research and Education and the Foundation for Finance and Financial Management. The Lord Mayor of the Hanseatic City of Lüneburg, Claudia Kalisch, will give a welcome address.
