14 Leuphana researchers among the world's most cited scientists

Lüneburg/Stanford. Professor John P.A. Ioannidis from Stanford University has been publishing a highly regarded ranking since 2019, which records the best 210,000 or so scientists in the world on the basis of standardized citation indicators. The current evaluation from the fall of this year looks at citations in 2022 and lists a total of 14 scientists from Leuphana University Lüneburg, who are among the 2 percent most frequently cited authors in their field worldwide.
Prof. Dr. Klaus Kümmerer is the best placed. He is ranked 16th out of a total of 99,567 scientists worldwide in the field of environmental sciences in terms of citations. In Germany, it occupies 1st place. Other most cited Lüneburg researchers from the neighboring disciplines of ecology and urban and regional planning are Prof. Dr. Jörn Fischer, Prof. Dr. Berta Martín-López, Prof. Dr. Jens Newig and Prof. Dr. David Abson.
In the field of Business & Management, Prof. Dr. Stefan Schaltegger, Prof. Dr. Michael Frese, Prof. Dr. Patrick Velte and Prof. Dr. Jacob Hörisch are among the most cited, as is Prof. Dr. Joachim Wagner in the field of Economics.
Prof. Dr. Christian Welzel is among the top ranked in his field of Political Science & Public Administration. Prof. Dr. Paolo Mercorelli is one of the most cited researchers in the field of Industrial Engineering & Automation, Apl.-Prof. Dr. Daniel Pleissner in the Biotechnology category and Prof. Dr. Sebastian Wallot in the field of Experimental Psychology.
In order to evaluate the academic performance of the scientists, the authors of the study used a total of six citation-related criteria, from which a key figure, the so-called "Composite Citation Index", is derived, which also takes into account distortions caused by self-citations. The author ranking takes into account subject areas from the natural sciences, life sciences, technology, humanities and social sciences. In total, the data of around 9.6 million scientists were evaluated.
