Lower Saxony Chamber of Engineers honors Sebastian Thiery
2024-02-16 Lüneburg/Hanover. Dr.-Ing. Sebastian Thiery from the Institute of Production Technology and Systems at Leuphana University Lüneburg has now been awarded the Lower Saxony Chamber of Engineers' Foundation Prize for his excellent engineering dissertation. The expert in forming technology received the prize, worth 500 euros, from the hands of Chamber President Prof. Dr.-Ing. Martin Betzler at the New Year's reception in Hanover.
In his dissertation, Thiery dealt with a basic analysis of incremental sheet forming with active medium for convex shaping under the supervision of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Noomane Ben Khalifa. Incremental sheet metal forming is used to economically produce sheet metal components in small quantities. Combining this process with the support of a gaseous medium opens up new possibilities for increasing the complexity of components without the need for additional measures. In order to exploit the potential of this innovative process combination for precise manufacturing, Thiery analyzed the underlying forming mechanisms as part of a DFG project.
The Foundation of the Lower Saxony Chamber of Engineers promotes engineering research for the benefit of society. With the foundation awards for excellent theses with a clear link to practice, it recognizes the achievements of young engineers. Eight awards were presented in 2024.
