Agile Lehre – Kompaktworkshop | 27. Januar 2023 | online

Grading Rubrics and Marking Schemes | February 13th, 2023 | Campus
At many universities and colleges, instructors use grading rubrics or marking schemes to assess student writing in a fair, consistent, and transparent manner. These rubrics are also often a means for instructors to convey their educational goals and expectations and to jump-start a conversation with their students on their learning. In this workshop, we will discuss key features and elements of effective grading rubrics as well as options for you to use them in your teaching. Using the grading rubric for the Leuphana Semester Module Problematising Knowledge: Critical Thinking as an example, we also consider the potential of grading rubrics to provide formative feedback in different settings and at different levels. At the end of the workshop, , which ist designed and conducted by the Leuphana Writing Center, participants will be prepared to design a grading rubric (or to revise one they already have) that they may eventually use in one or more of their courses.

Teaching Statements | March 3rd, 2023 | Campus
As defined on the website of the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching (CRLT) at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, a “teaching statement (or teaching philosophy) describes your core beliefs about teaching and learning and provides concrete examples of how they are implemented in the classroom.” Teaching statements are commonly requested by hiring committees in the United States, and many European institutions of higher learning have begun to follow suit. Instructors also often add these statements to their university and/or professional websites to convey, to several different audiences, their commitment to excellence in teaching. In this workshop, you will not only learn more this important genre, for example by analyzing authentic examples, but also begin to work on the first draft of your teaching statement. At the end of the workshop, which ist designed and conducted by the Leuphana Writing Center, participants will be familiar with the conventions and several options for creating a convincing teaching statement, and will have a basic draft of this important document.

Inverting the Course – Competence-oriented Active Learning in the Flipped Classroom | March 6th & 13th, 2023 | online
This English-language event contains two asynchronous and two synchronous parts and highlights the possibilities for competence-oriented active learning in lectures and other teaching formats by inverting the usual activities inside and outside a course. It deals with the conceptual foundations and the practical implementation of active learning in the Flipped Classroom. Participants will be able to design courses and learning units following the flipped classroom concept, formulate competence-oriented teaching-learning objectives and select appropriate teaching methods for preparation and class phases. As part of the workshop, which is designed and conducted by Dr. Daniel Lambach (Frankfurt), participants develop a concept for their own flipped learning unit.
