The Institute for Advanced Simulation unites Simulation Sciences and supercomputing under one roof. Thus, disciplinary, methodic and technological competences can be combined to manage the future challenges in the Simulation Sciences.

High Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS)

The High Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS) of the University of Stuttgart is one of the three member centres of the Gauss Centre for Supercomputing (GCS). HLRS supports national and European researchers from science and industry by providing high-performance computing platforms and technologies, services and support. The HLRS conducts basic and applied research in the field of high-performance computing in publicly funded national and European projects as well as industrial research activities in association with partners from research and industry.

Deutsches Klimarechenzentrum (DKRZ)

The DKRZ acts as a laboratory for all German climate researchers working with climate models. Accordingly, DKRZ's hardware and services are specifically tailored to complex simulations with numerical models of the climate system. The experiments can be effectively computed, and the extensive results can also be analyzed and visualized within DKRZ's high performance computing environment.

Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht / Zentrum für Material- und Küstenforschung (HZG)

In the years since the institution was founded in 1956, the spectrum of activities at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht has moved to accommodate the shifting focus of social, scientific and economic inquiry in order to arrive at the centre’s present research profile. In accordance with our motto — “Science creates benefits” — the researchers at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht not only produce scientific knowledge but also apply it to a range of concrete uses for the present and future. The Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht is engaged in long-term activities in the fields of materials and coastal research that are making a major contribution to resolving the large and pressing issues facing society and the scientific and business worlds.

DFG-Graduiertenkolleg 2132 / Ruhr-Universität Bochum / Das Dokumentarische. Exzess und Entzug (DOC)

The graduate research training group on “Documentary Practices: Excess and Privation” at the Ruhr University of Bochum examines the theory and history of documentary forms from the emergence of analog technology media in the 19th century to the digital media practices of the present. The focus is on the question of what operations invest documentary forms with their specific authority and by way of what procedures is it possible to challenge their claim to representing reality.
