Meet our Researchers: three questions for ...

CLARA SCHEVE (clara.scheve@leuphana.de)
Doctoral project about: Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Identity
Research group:  Entrepreneurship, Management & Innovation

GRADUATE SCHOOL: "And what are you writing about again?" At a house party, how would you summarise your research project in a few sentences without using technical terms?
Companies have a responsibility towards society - in many aspects. In my research, I am engaged in the overarching question of how companies can contribute to developing solutions for the grand societal challenges of our time, such as climate change (What can companies do to achieve this? Do they need to change their business model? Question their way of measuring success? Change their identity and mission?). With this in mind, I take a detailed look at companies and their stakeholders.

GS: "Writings the world does need!" To what extent does your doctoral thesis fill existing research gaps?
In one of my current research projects, I investigate the organizational identity of certified B Corps. These are companies which contribute to society and environmental sustainability through their economic activities. In this future-oriented research field, many questions are still open and there is room for novel, qualitative research methods. Interdisciplinary research on topics such as social impact and sustainability are becoming increasingly important in organization studies and entrepreneurship research. I hope I can make a valuable contribution there with my work.

GS: What is the connecting factor between your research topic and entrepreneurial practice?
The EU-funded project Digital Entrepreneurship, in which I am working at Leuphana, makes it possible to conduct very practice-oriented research, since I work directly with companies from the region and orient my research projects to concrete challenges faced by the companies. In the best case, therefore, we also support practice with research and provide transfer through joint workshops and events with the companies.
