Graduate School: Educational Model

INTERDISCIPLINARY, INTERNATIONAL, INNOVATIVE

At Leuphana Graduate School, you will be encouraged to broaden your perspective and move beyond the boundaries of your chosen discipline. You will immerse your master's and doctoral programme in all necessary and fascinating depth, while being guided into new ways of thinking, and new communities and perspectives through the different formats of our graduate education. This particularly enables you to meet the dynamic demands of the labour markets, society, and academia and makes your studies and doctoral programme an inspiring and personality-building phase of your life.

Interdisciplinary: Master Complementary Studies and Doctoral Courses

In most of our master's degree programmes, you study together with master's students from other programmes in every semester.  The modules of the Master Complementary Studies programme, which are taught by lecturers from all faculties at Leuphana and other universities, are designed to make this possible. Be inspired by ethical aspects of corporate governance, climate-positive cities, neurocultures and much more. In the doctoral programme, you enrich your individual doctoral project through regular discourse on questions of the philosophy of science and ethics - again, together with doctoral students from other programmes, colleges and universities. Take advantage of the opportunities offered by the interdisciplinary elements of the Graduate School curriculum.

Individual Profiles: Doctoral Track und Electives

Your academic home and passion is in the field of cultural studies or management, but you are also fascinated by sustainability issues? The electives model in our master's programmes offers you the opportunity to sign up for subject modules of other disciplines and earn credits there. In doing so, you build up individual specialisations and qualify for a wider range of professional fields.

Are you already thinking about doing a doctoral programme? If so, the Graduate School's Doctoral Track offers you all the options you need to become part of the doctoral research community at an early stage, earn credits in doctoral courses and get in touch with potential supervisors.

International and Digital: Global Classrooms

A change of perspective is usually most effective when it is accompanied by a change of location. Our Joint and Double Degree Masters programmes as well as the optional exchange programmes of the International Center send you to universities in Europe and overseas and give you a unique academic and (inter-)cultural experience. Whether Glasgow, Maastricht, Valencia or Barbados - the Leuphana graduate community is an extensive network and you can help shape it. On the Leuphana campus, too, the internationalisation of our programmes is a major concern for us: Whether through English-language degree programmes with a majority of international students or the steady expansion of digital teaching with international components - you can be sure to benefit from our ever-growing "Internationalisation at Home" throughout your studies and doctorate programme. In order to further expand the digital and international Graduate School, we are participating with two projects in the successfully acquired large-scale project "Digital Transformation Lab for Teaching and Learning" (DigiTaL, 2021 - 2024).

Graduate Community: Space for People and Stories

Do you appreciate short distances, a variety of extracurricular offers, a university town worthy of its name and an attractive campus based on the US model? If so, you can look forward to the Leuphana Campus with its College and Graduate School: both institutions operate in the style of the modern presence university and are constantly filling it with new life and ideas. Become part of our community of teachers, researchers, students and staff and actively shape our programmes, concept of education, and formats. Numerous meeting places and student work and exchange opportunities are available to you for this purpose.

Be inspired by selected graduate students, doctoral candidates, and staff and browse through our interviews, profiles and newsletters - the Graduate School team as well as all professors and lecturers look forward to the new perspectives you bring with you.
