SketchEngine
This workshop offers an insight into the Sketch Engine programme. Sketch Engine is an online programme for analysing collections of spoken or written texts (corpora) and finding out how language works. There are numerous interesting questions that can be answered by analysing corpora. These include questions about linguistic aspects of language, such as the frequency of certain words or grammatical constructions in a language or in varieties of a language. Sketch Engine can also be used for critical discourse analysis. Through frequency analyses or functions that can be used to examine the co-occurrence of words, it is possible to find out how language and certain worldviews are connected.
Dates: 19 November 2025, 10:15-11:45 // 18 December 2025, 14:15-15:45 / 12 January 2026, 16:15-17:45
Internet Corpora (GloWbE & BNC 2014)

The British National Corpus 2014 is a large collection of contemporary spoken British English from many different real-life contexts. The English corpus ‘GloWbE’ will also be introduced.
Dates: 24.11.25, 16:15-17:45
LimeSurvey

f4analyse
In this workshop, you will learn about the possibilities of qualitative data analysis with the f4 analyse software and become familiar with the basic functions of the programme. This includes organising texts, creating codes and also initial approaches to how the data can then be analysed.

AntConc
This workshop offers an introduction to AntConc, a linguistic software programme for analysing texts. There are numerous interesting questions that can be answered by analysing collections of written or spoken texts, known as corpora. These include questions about linguistic aspects of language, such as the frequency of certain words or grammatical constructions in a language or in varieties of a language. AntConC can also be used for critical discourse analysis. Frequency analyses and functions that examine the co-occurrence of words make it possible to discover how language and certain worldviews are connected. Examples of topics include gender differences, racism, and global warming in relation to language. The workshop offers an introduction to the most important functions of AntConC. These include the word list, keywords, concordance and collocates. Please download the software before the workshop: www.laurenceanthony.net/software/antconc/.
