Inhalt: We give an introduction to ecosystem modeling and elaborate modeling as a method. We develop conceptual models, but also formal models. Together we implement formal models in software and perform simulations with them. As an example, we deal with models that are relevant for special questions in ecosystem research. Limitations of modeling and simulations will be considered and discussed.
