Experimentation for Sustainable Value Propositions (Seminar)

Dozent/in: Simon Norris

Termin:
wöchentlich | Mittwoch | 10:15 - 11:45 | 26.10.2022 - 01.02.2023 | C 11.307

Inhalt: New entrepreneurial businesses can provide innovative solutions to the many contemporary sustainability challenges faced by societies, and to problems emerging from crises such as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. However, many new businesses fail because of rigid business plans that do not account for changing circumstances, or because they are based on incorrect assumptions about the business model. To succeed, sustainable business models and value propositions need to be fitted to the needs of stakeholders and the market through experimentation and iteration, based on interdisciplinary knowledge. The responsible application of scientific knowledge can provide invaluable support to this process. This seminar will teach the concept of sustainable business models (SBMs) and their role for sustainable entrepreneurship through an action-oriented approach. Students will learn how to ideate and experiment with SBMs, with a focus on the value proposition at the heart of these models. The interdisciplinary student groups will develop their own ideas for addressing sustainability or crisis challenges into value propositions, test these in the field and reflect on their learning over the course of the seminar. All students will need to present and discuss their projects in class. Additionally, students need to reflect on their individual progress as well as the social, ecological, economic, and ethical implications of their work. Students will apply scientific knowledge on sustainable entrepreneurship, business experimentation and sustainable business models to respond to societal challenges. This creates a strong link between academic knowledge and contemporary issues in society. Not only will students gain academic and practical knowledge and skills, they will also be able to reflect on the social, ecological, economic, and ethical implications of the seminar’s concepts. As business experimentation benefits greatly from diverse skillsets and perspectives, students will be able to complement and enrich each other. For more information, you can check out the course evaluation of past iterations. This course may be optionally completed as part of the new Leuphana Sustainable Entrepreneurship Certificate (LSEC). Check the section "Other Information" for more information.
