Environmental Chemicals in the Context of Climate Change, Energy Transition and Transformation - Basic Principles and Current Examples from Marine Research (Seminar)

Inhalt: This course explores environmental chemicals in the ocean‐atmosphere system, marine chemical processes, and the adverse effects of pollutants such as PFAS ‘forever chemicals’ and plastic-associated chemicals. In addition, participants will gain an insight into the role of the marine environment in Europe’s shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy, with a special focus on offshore wind farms. Key scientific, technological, environmental, and stakeholder dimensions will be analyzed to understand how marine systems can both support and be affected by this transition. Together, we will collect and factcheck common myths about the energy transition in the context of the marine environment.
