Inhalt: Security is a key concept of international politics, describing something we reasonably think is at stake when gender-based violence, poverty or armed conflict occurs. But is Security a concept at stake during global heating and if so, what, if anything, does this clarify regarding the concept’s intension? This course covers different schools of Critical Security Studies such as the Copenhagen, Welsh or French Schools of Security Studies. Scholars of these schools argue for different understandings of what exactly security refers to. Most of them often question, though not commonly do away with, state- and military-centric concepts. This seminar current affairs next to theoretical work on security. Students will be asked to argue with reference to respective literature that security is as a politics of states, a politics of people, a concept negating privacy or similar. The seminar centres an emancipatory understanding of Security. This reading intensive course will usually require some pre-existing knowledge of either IR or political theory. For the weekend-long course to work well, a piece of independent work must be submitted a week prior to the weekend at which the seminar takes place

Inhalt: In her seminal text titled Modern Moral Philosophy, G.E.M. Anscombe states that (1) it is not profitable do any moral philosophy at present before an “adequate philosophy of psychology” has developed, that (2) one should stop working with concepts of moral obligation and moral duty because those concepts are derivatives of something that no longer is and that (3) differences in modern moral philosophy are “of little importance”. In this Seminar, students do a very close reading of Anscombe’s text and her theses, working with additional literature of Moral Philosophy, Ethics and Political Theory to discern differences and difficulties of modern concepts of moral philosophy. This is a reading intensive course that will usually require some pre-existing knowledge of either political theory (introductory lecture) or political philosophy. For the weekend-long course to work well, a piece of independent work must be submitted a week prior to the weekend at which the seminar takes place.
