Operations and Supply Chain Management (Vorlesung)

Inhalt: Operations management refers to the systematic design, direction, and control of processes that transform inputs into services and products for internal, as well as external customers. The techniques of operations management apply throughout the world to virtually all productive enterprises. It doesn't matter if the application is in an office, a hospital, a restaurant, a department, or a factory – the production of goods and services requires operations management. A large percentage of the revenue of most firms is spent in the operations management function. Hence, achieving operations excellence is one of the most essential strategies to improve efficiency and to gain competitive advantage. Operations also serve as an excellent career path to upper management positions in many organizations since operations managers are responsible for key decisions that affect the success of the organization. However, the traditional view of operations management puts most of the emphasis on the activities a particular organization must perform when managing its own operations. But, as important as a company’s operations function is, it is not enough for a company to focus on doing the right things within its own four walls. Managers must also understand how the company is linked in with the operations of its suppliers, distributors, and customers – the supply chain.

Operations Management (Vorlesung)

Inhalt: Die Veranstaltung bietet eine Einführung in das Operations Management. Es werden zunächst aktuelle Konzepte, Modelle und Verfahren aus den Bereichen Beschaffung und Produktion erläutert. Hierzu zählen u. a. Ansätze des Beschaffungsmarketings, die Ausrichtung des Produktionsmanagements an der Unternehmensstruktur, das Konzept der Just-in-Time-Produktion und die Berücksichtigung der Datenverarbeitung im Produktionsmanagement. Im zweiten Teil der Veranstaltung wird dann der Planungsprozess eines Fertigungsbetriebs – beginnend mit der Programmplanung und endend bei der Maschinenbelegungsplanung – genauer vorgestellt.
