Academic Writing Course for LLM International Economic Law (Seminar/Übung)

Inhalt: The two primary goals of this course are to develop students' skills in writing (and reading) academic writing in general, and to support students' ability to transfer these skills to English. We will look at how to develop arguments that are evidence, analysis, and argument based, and how to express these in clear, persuasive, and structured writing. We will look at the tools and tactics for achieving this type of successful academic writing in English, working in particular on clarity of prose, the rhetoric of argument and exposition, and the different norms and styles of academic writing. We will also work on the differences between English and German writing, and on ways to make a successful argument in different registers of English, formal or informal, spoken or written.
