Inhalt: Policy Analysis, according to Frank Fischer, is commonly defined as „as an applied social science based on a multiple of theories and methods designed to produce and transform policy-relevant information to be utilized in decision-oriented political settings“. Mainstream policy analysis however is often aimed at finding generalizable rules irrespective of specific contexts. More recently, critical approaches have called into question the technocratic approach propagated by some strands in policy analysis and the rational model of decision-making they foreground. Instead, critical policy studies maintain how rationalistic policy analysis masks power relations. Instead, they call for interpretive and discursive techniques that denaturalise hegemonic frames by demonstrating how the social construction of 'facts' deems events as normal, expected, and natural (Yanow 2000).
