Inhalt: This course on Philosophy of Technology within the Module of aesthetics will investigate into the relation between technology and aesthetics in contemporary philosophy. Modernity is also the period where we witness the emergence of modern technology, which Martin Heidegger understands as the most significant challenge to humanity. According to Heidegger, the essence of modern technology is no longer technics but rather Gestell. In face of this challenge, we want to raise the following questions, what is the task of art? In what way shall the question of aesthetics be reconceptualised? What are the social and political implications of such reconceptualization? We will develop close and critical readings of some key texts, which address the relation between technology and aesthetics in the 20th century.
