Inhalt: Why do we care about entrepreneurship? The premise is that entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial thinking positively contributes to wealth creation and societal good. Examples are the creation of new ventures, intrapreneurship or corporate programs to foster within organizations or social entrepreneurs experimenting with novel ways to tackle societal problems. We understand digital entrepreneurship as the digital-technology fueled recognition and exploitation of viable opportunities, such as the creation of a product of provision or a service meeting the market or societal needs. Although women represent more than half of a population, more than the half at universities, their potential is unrealized. Without ignoring the relevance of individual action and attitudes, the main reasons for inequality are due to barriers in the social structure such as man-dominated culture in STEM-subjects, the Silicon-Valley macho-habitus dominating our understanding of entrepreneurship or discrimination in the distribution of venture capital. Indeed, actors challenge this status-quo. Successful female entrepreneurs serve as alternative role models; coding groups establish alternative communities-of-practice for women and by women to learn to programming. We can observe a similar trend in phenomena such as digital nomadism or co-working. At the same time, also policymakers ask the question, what they can do to support female entrepreneurial activities in a digital economy? It is precisely this question where students will work together with the course facilitator probe into exploring potential answers to this question. The German Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Woman and Youth assigned an expert commission to address the issue of equality of woman in a digital economy. Prof. Thomas Gegenhuber is a member of this commission.

Training in methods, with a particular focus on researching cultural entrepreneurship, will be given during an intensive weekend seminar, allowing for prolonged engagement with the course material and the integration of methodological skills through practice. After the methodology seminar, students will embark on their research projects. Conducting their research during seminar allows students to integrate theoretical knowledge from the ongoing seminars with their emerging findings. Not having a seminar every week will offer students the time to engage in their fieldwork or other research. Finally, students will present during the Arts and Cultural Management Conference for Students and Young Professionals, to be held from January 23th to January 25th in Groningen (the Netherlands). This conference will bring together students and early-stage practitioners in the field of cultural management from different areas in Europe, providing participants of the course the chance to build an international network and familiarize themselves with international standards of academic conference activity. Inhalt: Today’s society faces tremendous social issues. Millions of people in developing countries suffer from poverty, unemployment, lack of health care, sanitation and education. Even in rich western countries too many people are excluded from active participation in society and economy, for instance due to their gender, age, race or health. Solving these social issues has been seen as a task of the public and civil sector for a long time, but unfortunately success has been limited. However, in recent years a new breed of entrepreneurs emerged that joined the fight against social issues. They discovered that the power of entrepreneurship can open up totally new opportunities. Social Entrepreneurs view social challenges not as an obstacle, but as an accelerator for innovation. They create inclusive businesses which foster societal change. As the Nobel peace prize winner of 2006 – Mohammed Yunus – once put it: “Every Time I See a Problem, I Create a Business to Solve It!” This course will introduce you to the field of Social Entrepreneurship. We start by building a solid theoretical basis. You will get in-depth insights through a kick-off session on Social Entrepreneurship and learn more about Social Entrepreneurs and their businesses. Next, you will join a research session that will give you the ability to reach out to Social Entrepreneurs and conduct your own research paper.
