Political Mobilization and Violence (Seminar)

Dozent/in: Belén González

Termin:
wöchentlich | Freitag | 10:15 - 11:45 | 14.10.2019 - 31.01.2020 | C 12.013 Seminarraum

Inhalt: The course stresses the relevance of the linkage between theories and methods in Comparative Politics in the domain of peace and conflict research. The seminar provides insights about conducting coherent comparative analyses on political mobilization and conflict processes. We will focus on the underlying logic of theoretical arguments and how researchers evaluate them. We will then examine the relationship between theory and evidence, measurement, and research design. During the seminar, we will look at the implications entailed by different theories and arguments on political mobilization, and think of ways to evaluate if these are consistent with empirical patterns. The seminar will guide students towards developing their own research questions and carrying out their own research. Students should actively engage with the readings and are expected to work throughout the seminar.
