Inhalt: Innovation prevails as a key driver for organizational success and economic growth. However, while innovation is one of the most commonly cited concepts in social science, unintended undesirable consequences and by-products of innovation are rarely studied so far. This is captured by the term ‘pro-innovation bias’, which refers to the idea that innovation per se is a desirable phenomenon and that positive outcomes will invariably arise from all forms of innovation. The purpose of the seminar is to develop a more fully-fledged notion of innovation and innovation management in organizations. On the base of case studies, students are encouraged to critically reflect and to advance the notions, models and common measurement of innovations as well as to elaborate on the ambivalent or even negative outcomes of innovation processes.

Inhalt: Content Overview Meaning and Scope CE means engagement with and the involvement of citizens in different types of new venture creation with which to resolve critical issues in the economy and in society. These issues could cover, for example, climate change and clean energy usage, creating healthy living spaces and habitats, reducing crime, working as stakeholders for business and social ventures, generating and owning new data for local employment, local purchasing in local environments, and creating safe, collective spaces in social media. The process of engagement with citizens varies from idea creation through to implementation stages of both commercial and community-based activities. Through such involvement citizens exercise collective efficacy as users, consumers, producers, and voters in their communities. This in turn can help to reduce the tensions between private, public and social enterprise and the differentiated values they generate. Instead of a fixation on entrepreneurship as a vehicle for economic growth, CE assists in cultivating the practice of entrepreneurship as a collective tool for economic, environmental and social transformation. Application The study of CE involves an understanding and articulation of three key concepts –a ‘Commons’ based approach to entrepreneurship, the idea of innovation as a social good, and the use of a Capabilities Approach to economic, personal and social development. Using key theories that underpin these concepts, students will be: • Introduced to the CE phenomenon in practice in different parts of the world (with a focus on Europe) through selected case studies drawn from recent research; • Supported in developing a critical, analytical capability with which to study the cases, the outcomes and their implications; and • Work towards the co-curation of a forum for public engagement with the subject and the potential launch of new CE projects and activities or the promotion of existing narratives in different environments. Participants will use the content above to work through specific case studies offered to them at the start of the course. The course will be offered in two instalments of 2 days each in May and June, 2020.

Einzeltermin | Fr, 19.06.2020, 09:15 - Fr, 19.06.2020, 15:45 | C 40.254 Seminarraum

Inhalt: Set-up of virtual course This virtual course familiarises students with various topics regarding the organization of the cultural and creative industries. The set-up of the course is as follows. Students will be provided with reading materials which they are required to read during each week. Next to this, they are expected to purchase the book Seven Days in the Art World, by Sarah Thornton. For each session, they will be given a virtual lecture to aid their understanding of the reading. They are then expected to add their questions about the lecture and material to the Forum feature of MyStudy. A thread will be made for each session. Every Tuesday, during the time slot scheduled for the seminar, a Zoom meeting will be held to address all questions and foster discussion. Content of the course Relying mainly on empirical studies conducted in the areas of organisation studies, (cultural) sociology, and entrepreneurship research, the course takes as its guiding question: how is organising in the cultural and creative industries accomplished? We will focus on the different 'sites' where such organising takes place, and will look at (for instance) the role of cultural institutions, informal networks, art markets, and creative spaces.
