Inhalt: During the summer term 2020, this course will be organized entirely as an ONLINE seminar. There will be no physical presence sessions. The scheduled slot on Thursday will be used weekly for video-conference class meetings, using the "Zoom" platform. A detailed syllabus is now available on this website under Material/Syllabus. The course deals in depth with selected aspects of social and cultural development of societies around the world, taking a global and cross-cultural perspective. We will identify key trends and patterns of development, recognize how culture and institutions interact in favoring or blocking these changes, and why some societies are more advanced than others.
