Working with Texts. Englisch B1.2 (Seminar)

Dozent/in: Maria Moss

Inhalt: Dieses Semester wird die Veranstaltung als E-Learning Format angeboten, d.h. als Mischung aus Einzel- bzw. Gruppenbetreuung und selbstgesteuertem Lernen. In this seminar, we will work with a variety of engaging texts from flash fiction and poetry to scholarly texts and film. Students will become familiar with a variety of global reading strategies, while using all four skills in a motivating, cooperative atmosphere. In addition, students will practice identifying text structure, purpose, and organization, while learning to read more critically and efficiently. These are all skills that will prepare students for the challenges of reading a variety of university texts in English. Finally, we hope that students will become more confident and passionate readers over the course of the semester.

Working with Writing. Englisch ab B1.2 (Seminar)

Dozent/in: Lynette Kirschner

Inhalt: In this course we will focus on writing in professional contexts. We will not be able to examine genres specific disciplines or professions (such as legal briefs or advertising copy) although you could choose to do this in your final essay. Instead we will focus on such aspects as clarity and concision, register and appropriateness, explanation and persuasion. After a close reading and discussion of your choice, you will write a brief essay using the techniques learned during the course.
