Music Theory (Seminar)
Dozent/in: Julius Penson Williams III
Termin:
wöchentlich | Donnerstag | 10:15 - 11:45 | 12.10.2020 - 29.01.2021 | C 16.207 Musik
Inhalt: *** This semester, this course will be taught by Julius P Williams III *** We will explore the three main components of Western Music Theory: Harmony, Structure and Voice-Leading. Through analysing repertoire from various genres, styles and periods, we will consider how composition has evolved harmonically and structurally over time. Although no prior knowledge is required, this course moves quite quickly into harmonic analysis - it is therefore an advantage to be able to read music (this can be learned relatively quickly!!!) Weekly analysis exercises will enable us to discover how chords and keys relate to each other and how composers use various combinations to create specific effects.
