Inhalt: Using the creative and political potential of the arts for society can take on different 'modes', ranging from activist, editorial, curatorial and reflexive. Increasingly, practitioners outside the arts must know how to draw on aesthetics as well. This seminar offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience curating the programme of a cultural venue. As such, student will experiment with these modes productively for the production of a cultural event or programme, creating coherence between form and content, and balancing academic and organizational aspects. The assignment, given by the Kunstverein Lüneburg, provides a chance to plan and execute the content of a professional venue as part of the course and at the same time allows students to prepare for the different ways of working that shape contemporary (cultural) organizations. In this seminar, students will be invited to design, produce, organize, and reflect on a cultural event or programme for the Kunstverein Lüneburg. In so doing, they will gain an understanding of the different aspects involved in setting up and running cultural events and programmes, such as concept development, curatorial thinking, editorial practices, fund raising, book keeping, PR, and marketing. This seminar is part of the Cultural Entrepreneurship module which consists of two 5 CP seminars: Entrepreneurship in the Cultural and Creative Industries, and Labour and Entrepreneurship in Culture. The two seminars are complimentary, students are encouraged to take both and will benefit from an increased understanding of the subject matter and the different theoretical and empirical approaches.

wöchentlich | Donnerstag | 10:15 - 11:45 | 03.12.2020 - 29.01.2021 | C 14.027 Seminarraum

Inhalt: In the seminar Labour and Entrepreneurship in Culture, students will explore different perspectives on work in the field of culture, drawing from sociology, critical theory, critical entrepreneurship studies, and communication theory. They will also explore how the organization of this type of labour is affected by changes in policies, changes in markets as a result of digitization, and new uses of spatial settings. Students will be asked to lead the different (virtual) seminar sessions. In duos, they will be responsible for presenting the assigned literature in a comprehensive manner, chair discussion and interaction, and experiment with formats for this. Each duo will be asked to hand in slides for their session beforehand. Furthermore, students will write a 5000-word essay at the end of the course. Through this assignment, they will gain research experience by analysing fictional accounts of the experiences of creative workers (for instance by looking at film, literature, creative non-fiction, fiction, or blogs), or writing an autoethnographic account of their own experience doing creative or cultural work.
