Entrepreneurship: Tilling the Field (Seminar)

Dozent/in: Sarah Stanske, Matthias Wenzel

Termin:
14-täglich | Montag | 08:15 - 11:45 | 12.04.2021 - 05.07.2021 | C 40.153 Seminarraum | Bitte mit Beamer und derselbe Raum für "X and Organization Studies", das ich zur gleichen Uhrzeit und um 1 Woche versetzt anbiete.

Inhalt: This advanced seminar aims to provide participants with a deeper understanding of entrepreneurship frameworks, concepts, and models that are relevant for the entrepreneurial process and its critical reflection. The entrepreneurial knowledge landscape of the seminar is differentiated into seven fields: Entrepreneurial individuals, teams, leadership, organizations, strategy, ecosystems, and society. In each field, four scientific journal articles will be presented and discussed. To condense knowledge in each field, participants will use these discussions as impulse for writing up a one-paged "extend your knowledge" summary of an article, as well as a one-paged "in practice" illustration of how the concept in play becomes manifest in real-life cases. Both tasks will be assigned in the last session.

Inhalt: Set-up of course This course familiarises students with various topics regarding the organization of the cultural and creative industries. The set-up of the course is as follows. Students will be provided with reading materials which they are required to read during each week. Next to this, they are expected to purchase the book Seven Days in the Art World, by Sarah Thornton. For each session, they will be given a recorded lecture to aid their understanding of the reading. They are then expected to add their questions about the lecture and material to the Forum feature of MyStudy. A thread will be made for each session. Every Tuesday, during the time slot scheduled for the seminar, a Zoom meeting will be held to address all questions and foster discussion. Content of the course Relying mainly on empirical studies conducted in the areas of organisation studies, (cultural) sociology, and entrepreneurship research, the course takes as its guiding question: how is organising in the cultural and creative industries accomplished? We will focus on the different 'sites' where such organising takes place, and will look at (for instance) the role of cultural institutions, informal networks, art markets, and creative spaces.

Inhalt: Organizations are embedded in a system of social relations. Customers, shareholders, non-governmental organizations, governments are affected by an organization’s decision or seek to affect organizational decision making. In short, they are stakeholders. When organizing for sustainability (e.g., prioritizing environmental or social mission), it is critical to managing the stakeholders. Some stakeholders may push an organization to do better (e.g., NGOs) whether other stakeholders, such as shareholders, may prioritize economic profits over sustainability considerations. Given that digital technologies impact how organizations interact with stakeholders, we will also consider the role of crowds and communities in the stakeholder management process. This course consists of two parts. In the first part, you will learn about organizational theories allowing you to understand better various stakeholder management aspects, including resource dependence theory, stakeholder management theory, or institutional theory. In the second part, you will focus on applying these perspectives to contemporary sustainability phenomena or cases.
