International Conflict and Civil Wars (Seminar)

Inhalt: Since the end of the cold war, the world has experienced a surge in the number of civil wars. The prevalence of this type of internal conflict has made it one of the most pervasive forms of political violence, which coexists with other types of international conflicts. This seminar introduces MA students to contemporary research on international conflicts and civil wars. During the course, we study the origins, dynamics, and termination of civil wars, as well as international interventions, post-conflict legacies, and policy responses to war. The course covers a variety of research approaches, including qualitative and quantitative, as well as sub- and cross-national comparative designs. Students should actively engage with the readings and are expected to work throughout the seminar.
