Inhalt: This course provides an introduction to the specifics of language structure and language function. After a general introduction to the nature and structure of the English language, we study the various components of a language, such as speech sounds (phonetics and phonology), words and their internal structure (morphology), phrases and sentence structure (syntax), meaning of words and sentences (semantics), and meaning of utterances in communication (pragmatics). In addition, we look at the relations between language and society, language and communication, and language and education.
