Inhalt: This is a course in critical media production. We explore the specific affordances of moving images and sound to describe the contemporary world. We will ask how sequential images can be said to make a coherent argument? What are the new possibilities for expressing current subjectivities with the moving image? How can our media production take into account archives and video databases? 

Digital video can create all sorts of experimental associations, narratives, atmospheres, rhythms and stories. We will focus on treating moving images and audio as artistic materials to be collected and manipulated. We will learn how to move between free-form discovery and more systematic organization--working with video requires both. Finally, we will study how to gather and assemble media critically through several thematic projects. 

In addition to these current questions about the moving image, we will also explore themes in aesthetics more generally.

Inhalt: Introduction to video journalism Resuming facts, explaining bigger contexts, telling other people’s stories – with videos. In this course we will establish basic criteria for video journalism in Germany and produce journalistic pieces for our own tv show that then will be published on TIDE TV.
