Inhalt: To make a 5-10minute short film / video-essay, by learning the practical processes involved including editing image and sound, adding graphics for titles and text and simple colour correction.

We will look briefly at various historical techniques of montage, editing image, sound and text, briefly examining a wide range of examples from early cinema, experimental artist film and video, feature films, essay-film up to the present day’s various styles of documentary. Inspiration for finding alternatives to main-stream broadcast television or streaming services. Important here is that the techniques serve the subject matter, communicating the filmmakers’ intentions as well as considering the final format in which the audience will experience the work.

Using Adobe Premiere with support from basic graphics in After Effects or Photoshop (as and if necessary). The specifics of a particular software will not be as important as the creation of the final result and using technology to answer specific demands a project may make. A lot of the editing skills can ultimately be used in most editing softwares, without needing particularly high tech facilities of expensive plugins.

Students will plan a short film, working in small groups, either by filming and sound recording new material or working (and adding to) existing footage they already have, this can also incorporate spoken or written text. Planning a basic structure, organising footage, editing picture and sound, adding sounds or music if required, adding titles and any written text, formatting the final film for its final use, whether a physical screening, or online.

Digital Journalism: Interview Training (Projektseminar)

Dozent/in: Andreas Wrede

Termin:
14-täglich | Donnerstag | 14:00 - 17:00 | 03.04.2023 - 07.07.2023 | HMS 211/215

Inhalt: This seminar is very hands-on. The students will either undertake media-excursions in Hamburg and surrounding areas which will inspire them to execute special media projects in a very creative way. The students are free to choose the format of their seminar paper (for instance: reportage, podcast, video, essay, documentary), but mandatory is the application of an interview or at least elements of an interview. Since interview techniques/interview training are an essential part of the seminar. Included are also lectures of experienced media personalities like Ulrich Wickert (former Tagesthemen anchor), Julia Jäkel (Gruner+Jahr, former chairwoman of the board), Klaus Ebert (president of the Allgemeiner Hamburger Presseclub) or Arist von Harpe (publisher oft he Hamburger Morgenpost). Another objective of the seminar is the expansion of the networks of the students.
