Inhalt: This course is designed to deepen the students’ knowledge of public international law by addressing the intersections between International Economic Law and related policy and legal areas. Policy and academic debates in the last years have highlighted that international trade and investment policy and law do not operate in a vacuum but have highly relevant impacts on issues that span from the environment and the climate to national security. This course focusses on these intersections, provides the students with understanding of how international economic law operates at these intersections and invites them to critically assess how successfully international economic law manages to integrate the objectives of other legal regimes and policy fields. Discussing these topics will also allow us to observe a change in the ‘geological’ makeup of the international economic law regime as we will study the multilateral trade regime of the WTO, bilateral agreements as well as the novel phenomenon of regulating international trade by way of unilateral instruments.
