LOST @Ca’Foscari: Matthias Wenzel discussed future-making with colleagues in Venice

06.02.2026

Matthias Wenzel contributed to a research seminar at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. In an engaging session on „making futures" with faculty and doctoral researchers, he discussed how organizational actors imagine, narrate, and enact futures, and how the study of future-making connects strategy and organization theory. The conversation highlighted the conceptual foundations of the field and the value of bringing a practice perspective to understand how futures are made.

The discussion also surveyed current research directions, from empirical studies of future-oriented practices to methodological advances for analyzing anticipatory work, and reflected on the perils and prospects of reviewing. Topics included reviewing criteria, limits to accepting review invitations, and fostering constructive peer review that supports cumulative knowledge. Matthias thanks our colleagues at Ca’ Foscari, especially Anna de la Torre Fornell, for the invitation and lively exchange, which aligns closely with LOST Research Center’s ongoing interest in future-making as one central research area.
