Paula Jarzabkowski will be awarded an honorary doctorate by the School of Management and Technology. As part of the accompanying program, Paula will give a guest lecture. All members of the university are invited to attend.

Paula Jarzabkowski is Professor of Strategic Management at the University of Queensland Business School in Brisbane, Australia. She is one of the founders of a field in management and organizational research that has established itself over the past 20 years: Strategy as Practice.

Her research covers topics such as:

  • The insurance protection gap across multiple perils, including terrorism, climate change, and major weather events such as bushfires, hurricanes, and floods.
  • Financial protection and resilience to disaster in both advanced and developing economies.
  • Insurance markets as fundamental to the economy, including aspects such as mortgages, credit, and lending.

Her work has contributed to a completely new understanding of organizational and strategic processes — moving from a focus on characteristics and “factors” towards activities and “practices.” This shift has profoundly changed perspectives and research methods in management and organizational research, inspiring an entire generation of researchers in her field — a legacy that continues today.
