Leuphana Security Dialogue: Four years of war - Impressions from Kyiv

06. May

What is the situation on the ground four years into the war in Ukraine? How is Ukrainian society coping, what political developments are on the horizon, and what is the future of warfare that will shape Europe's own rearmament?

The Leuphana Center for Cooperative Security invites you to:

  • May 6, 2026
  • 5:15–6:45 p.m.
  • Room C4.027, Leuphana University of Lüneburg
  • No registration required
  • The event will be held in English.

Based on a research visit to Kyiv in Spring 2026, defense and security researcher Dr. Alexandr Burilkov (Leuphana) will discuss the implications for Ukraine and Europe of developments in Ukrainian society, the state of the conflict, and European rearmament.

The war in Ukraine has led to profound and rapid changes in the technologies and tactics of modern warfare. Today, Ukraine and Russia are the most experienced fighting forces in the world, and continue to innovate and gain experience, even as European rearmament still struggles to fully mobilize for the strategic challenges of the near future.

Concurrent with the war are the ongoing developments in Ukrainian politics and society. Where lies Ukraine's future course? How will domestic cleavages, global instability, and American moves to disengage from Europe affect this?
