Professional School continues growing

Lüneburg. After a record number of applications last Winter semester, the Professional School of Leuphana University Lüneburg announced that it had reached again a new record for the coming Summer semester. More than 200 students will start their professional degree programs between March and May - more than ever. Right now 670 students are enrolled in the Professional School.

“The rising number of students in the Professional Schools shows that life-long learning is more important for our society than ever. We want to give people the opportunity to take advantage of our diverse continuing education curriculum to pursue their own individual educational path and find new professional and personal opportunities,” said Leuphana President Sascha Spoun. Prof. Dr. Jörg Philipp Terhechte, director of the professional continuing education program, was excited about the new increase in demand: “The most recent numbers show how attractive our curriculum is. At this point we have skilled professionals and managers from across Germany enrolled as students.”

The professional education programs at Leuphana are distinguished for the specialized and inter-disciplinary qualifications they offer as well as their personalized advising support for students. In order to maintain this high level of quality, student applications in some degree programs have to be turned down. This was also true in the very popular Master’s program in Social Management. This program has been offered successfully for over 20 years. The program director, Wolf Paschen, is convinced that “ the rising number of applications shows that the strong demand for highly qualified entry-level employees in social welfare remains unchanged and that our program supplies that need.” He is particular proud that over 80% of the applicants are women who want to earn administrative and leadership qualifications in social management.

The Leuphana Professional School offers degree programs in Bachelor and Master’s degrees as well as certificate programs in the fields of business & management, law, as well as health and social welfare. In addition, they offer short-term continuing education options such as seminars and auditing programs. The next opportunity to enroll in the continuing education program is the 2014/15 Winter semester. That is when new classes for the two bachelor degree programs designed for educators will start: music in childhood and social work. Two new Master’s degree programs will also start then - in business and competition law as well as a program in construction law and management. In addition, courses for certificates in coaching and sustainability journalism will be offered.
