Jakob Nierenz is the second Music Artist in Residence

2021-12-01 Lüneburg. In 2019, Leuphana University Lüneburg began appointing an Artist in Residence for a one-year period to supervise one of Leuphana's ensembles. The trumpeter, composer, arranger and bandleader Torsten Maaß was the first to be appointed. There was a break in the following year due to the Corona Pandemic. Since this winter semester, the cellist Jakob Nierenz from Lüneburg is the new Artist in Residence. He will work with the chamber music ensembles of the university.

Jakob Nierenz studied at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen and at Rice University in Houston (USA). From 2018 to 2020, he was deputy principal cellist of the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck. The 30-year-old is also founder, board member, and cellist of the Lüneburg "ensemble reflektor", and a member of the "Rothko String Quartet", also founded in Lüneburg in 2017.

Leuphana University Music Director Rebecca Lang is delighted about the new artist: "With his experience in various ensembles, Jakob Nierenz will be a great asset to the training of our chamber music ensembles. His broad musical spectrum also fits the requirements perfectly."

As part of the Leuphana Ensembles' Winter Picnic Series, there will be an opportunity to experience Jakob Nierenz live. The 1st concert, entitled "Something Old & Something New", will take place on 6 December at 7.30 pm in the Forum of the Central Building. Repeats will follow on 8 and 9 December. Registration is required. The 2G+ rule applies.
