Education researcher Pietsch involved in new School Leadership Monitor Germany
2024-03-15 Lüneburg/Düsseldorf. Professor Dr. Marcus Pietsch from the Institute of Educational Sciences at Leuphana University Lüneburg is co-author of the representative study "Schulleitungsmonitor Deutschland", which was published last year and for which a good 1,000 head teachers at general education schools of all school types from all federal states were surveyed. The Wübben Stiftung Bildung, which commissioned the study, has now announced that the School Leadership Monitor will be continued.
The aim of the study is to record the work situation and actions of school leaders in Germany. What challenges do head teachers face in Germany, what makes their job (un)attractive and what is the relationship with the education administration like? The "School Leadership Monitor Germany" aims to answer these and many other questions. For the upcoming survey, the research team will also be taking a closer look at the heads of schools in the focus area.
Marcus Pietsch is delighted about the continuation of the study: "The last survey showed, among other things, that only 13% of school leaders in Germany have completed a qualification at universities or teacher training colleges and that a great deal of trust in the education ministries of the federal states has been lost in recent years. The new study will provide important impetus for the management of the German education system and underline the relevance of school leaders for the success of lessons and schools."
The study was commissioned by the University of Teacher Education of the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland with its cooperation partners Leuphana University Lüneburg, the University of Tübingen and the University of Teacher Education Vorarlberg. The next survey will take place in fall 2025 and the results are expected to be published in summer 2026.
