Prof. Dr. Serhat Karakayali receives Fulbright Scholar Award for research stay in New York
2025-06-02 Professor Serhat Karakayali, Professor of Sociology specializing in Migration and Diversity at Leuphana University Lüneburg, has received a Fulbright Scholar Award. He will conduct research as a visiting scholar at the City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate Center during the upcoming academic term.
His project, "The Hyphenation of Racism," investigates how contemporary discussions about racism increasingly focus on specific forms of discrimination – such as anti-Muslim, anti-Black, anti-Asian, or anti-Kurdish racism. This trend toward "hyphenated" conceptualizations reflects significant shifts in how societies recognize and address discrimination.
Professor Karakayali's research will analyze the societal consequences of this conceptual fragmentation and examine the institutional practices and political dynamics driving these developments.
