The Future of Electricity Supply – What Matters at the Local and Regional Levels for the Energy Transition to Succeed?
2026-08-31 Leuphana University of Lüneburg, in collaboration with the Lower Saxony Climate Protection and Energy Agency (KEAN), the ECOLOG Institute for Social-Ecological Research and Education, the Foundation for Finance and Financial Management, and the Foundation for Environmental Energy Law, cordially invites you to the 14th Energy Forum 2026. Under the title “The Electricity Supply of the Future: What Matters Locally and Regionally for the Energy Transition to Succeed?”, the event will take place on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, in the main building of Leuphana University Lüneburg. Mayor Claudia Kalisch will deliver the opening remarks.
The energy transition is one of the key societal challenges of the 21st century. As electricity, heating, and mobility become increasingly intertwined, the focus is shifting to a sustainable electricity supply. The growing importance of renewable energy—particularly wind and solar power—raises new technical, legal, and societal questions. At the same time, challenges such as weather dependence, decentralized energy generation, and the expansion of power grids are not merely federal or European issues—they require concrete local action.
At this year’s Energy Forum, researchers, practitioners, and decision-makers from municipalities, counties, energy companies, and the political sphere will explore how renewable energy, electricity storage, and grid expansion can be integrated at the local and regional levels. The event combines scientific expertise with practical experience and discusses the diverse aspects of the energy transition: technical innovations, legal frameworks, financial models, and societal acceptance. Among others, Klaus Müller, President of the Federal Network Agency, will deliver the opening address, and Christian Meyer, Lower Saxony’s Minister for the Environment, Energy, and Climate Protection, will speak at the closing plenary session.
