Organizing in Times of Crisis
This research area addresses how organizations respond to, navigate, and transform through crises and disruptions. Our research investigates resilient and sustainable organizing practices in the face of enduring, intertwined crisis phenomena, contributing knowledge about forms and practices of organizing that enable organizational and societal agency in times of continued disruption. We apply process- and practice-theoretical lenses to examine how organizations manage disruption and build capacity for transformation across various empirical contexts.
Specific research topics include CSR communication in times of polarization, crisis of creativity and AI, the management of tensions and intersectionalities in terms of vulnerability, or crisis-resilient and transformative organizing practices in different spheres such as public administrations, companies and civil society initiatives. The goal is to develop new theories and models of organizing and crisis management that provide guidance and enable action even under conditions of high uncertainty.
This research is particularly relevant for understanding organizational adaptation in an era of systemic instability. Our findings equip organizations and policymakers with practical knowledge for building resilience, managing complex crises, and creating opportunities for positive change.
