Inhalt: Housing markets are central to economic performance, social inequality, and individual well-being. This seminar introduces students to the economic analysis of housing markets and their interaction with public policy and labor markets. We begin by examining the specific characteristics of housing as a good and the functioning of housing markets, including supply constraints, price dynamics, and urban development. The course then analyzes market failures, distributional effects of rising housing costs, and major policy instruments such as rent regulation, housing subsidies, and social housing. In the final part, we explore the links between housing markets and labor markets, focusing on mobility, regional inequality, segregation, and the broader economic consequences of housing supply restrictions. The seminar combines theoretical models with empirical evidence from international research and encourages critical discussion of current policy debates. Assessment consists of a presentation (one-third of the final grade) and a written term paper (two-thirds).
